Three terminals, three counters, verified today

Luggage Storage at Dubai Airport

Dubai International (DXB) runs a staffed baggage-storage counter in each of its three terminals, open 24 hours. Terminal 3 is the cheapest at AED 35 for the first 12 hours; Terminals 1 and 2 run AED 40. No app, no booking, no locker wall — you hand the bag to someone.

  • Open 24/7, all 3 terminals
  • From AED 35
  • Walk-in, no booking

Bags down at DXB?

Don't wait it out. See Dubai.

With your bags stored, a private car and driver meet you at DXB and run Burj Khalifa, the Palm and Old Dubai on a route timed to the hours you have left, then return you with margin to collect your bag and board. Per car, not per person, from $163.

Find the right counter, not just the right airport

Which terminal actually has it

Dubai International Airport (DXB)

DXB has three working terminals and each one runs its own baggage-storage desk, so "Dubai airport luggage storage" isn't one location, it's three. If your flight lands in Terminal 3 (most Emirates metal) and you search for a counter using directions written for Terminal 1, you'll walk the wrong way.

Terminal 1 & Terminal 2: dnata Baggage Services, Arrivals level, near Boots Pharmacy and the Etisalat store. Same operator runs both desks.

Terminal 3: Emirates Left Luggage, Arrivals level, near Exit 1, behind the Boots Pharmacy. This is the terminal most Emirates and connecting Emirates-codeshare flights use.

All three sit landside on the Arrivals level — meaning you clear immigration first, then find the counter on your way out, not before. If your transit never leaves the airside zone, you won't pass any of these desks. Unsure whether your layover clears immigration at all? That's covered on our Dubai Layover Tour page under transit eligibility, not a luggage question.

What it actually costs, per terminal

DXB prices per 12-hour block, not per hour and not per day — there's no 3-hour or 24-hour bracket the way Abu Dhabi's counter runs it. A bag dropped for 90 minutes is billed the same as a bag dropped for 11 hours 59 minutes.

Verified against Dubai Airports' own published baggage information, 11 September 2026. "Standard" means a case within roughly 21 by 24 by 11 inches; anything past that, or anything the desk flags as high-value, gets the higher rate. Each further 12-hour block is billed again at the same rate — there's no discount for the second block the way Abu Dhabi tapers its longer tiers.

What actually happens at the counter

Drop-off and collection, step by step

You bring the bag and your passport or boarding pass to the desk. Staff run it through a screening check, weigh or measure it against the standard-size cutoff, and tag it with a numbered ticket — you keep one half, the bag keeps the other. Budget five to ten minutes for this, longer if there's a queue behind an arriving flight.

Collection is the same in reverse: bring the ticket and matching ID, staff pull the tagged bag, you check it's yours and sign it back out. Lose the ticket and expect extra questions before they'll release the bag — keep a photo of it on your phone as backup.

Payment is by card or cash in AED at the counter itself; there's no online prepayment for the airport's own desks the way third-party storage apps work.

Set the right expectation

Staffed desk, not a self-service locker

Each of the three counters is a manned desk behind which your bag is logged and stored out of public reach — not a wall of coin- or app-operated lockers you access yourself. That's a meaningful difference from something like Stasher's network of partner shops around the city: at the airport counter, a person handles the bag both times, and you never touch it in between.

What the airport's own baggage-storage terms don't cover is insurance for the contents. If a case goes missing or arrives damaged, you're generally pointed to your travel insurance rather than a payout from the counter itself — worth knowing before you hand over anything irreplaceable.

Read this before you queue

What the counter won't take

Standard airport baggage-storage practice excludes cash, jewellery and other high-value items, perishable food, and anything flagged as hazardous or flammable — the same categories your checked luggage can't carry, checked again at the desk rather than at the bag drop. If you're travelling with a single high-value item inside an otherwise ordinary suitcase, mention it at the counter; that's usually what triggers the "large or valuable" rate rather than the size of the case itself.

Travelling with more than one or two bags, or with a group? There's no published multi-item discount for DXB's own counters the way some third-party services advertise one — each bag is priced and ticketed on its own.

The part the price table can't tell you

How much of your layover this actually leaves you

Storing the bag isn't the slow part. DXB runs Smart Gate biometric immigration for a wide range of passport holders, which for eligible travellers can clear the border in a few minutes rather than a full manual counter queue — but not everyone qualifies, and queue length still depends on how many flights landed around the same time as yours.

Build your real number from three pieces, not one guess: immigration (minutes for Smart Gate-eligible travellers, longer at a manual desk during a busy arrivals bank), roughly five to ten minutes to drop the bag at the counter, and the same again in reverse before you re-clear security for departure. None of that is the sightseeing time itself — it's the tax you pay to get to it and back.

If you'd rather have someone else do that arithmetic against your actual flight numbers, that's the starting point for our Dubai Layover Tour.

A 12-hour block at Terminal 3 costs the same whether you use nine of those hours or two — so once you've paid for it, the honest move is to actually use the time rather than sit at a gate. A private route built around the Museum of the Future, Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa base, or the Gold and Spice Souks depending on how many hours you've genuinely got left after immigration and the bag drop, is what our Dubai Layover Tour page is built around.

Compared with Abu Dhabi's counter at Zayed International — tiered by the hour rather than a flat 12-hour block, and a different city's worth of sights on the other end — the two aren't interchangeable if your flight actually lands at AUH. That's its own page: Luggage Storage at Abu Dhabi Airport.

Dubai airport luggage storage FAQ

Is there luggage storage at Dubai airport

Yes. DXB runs a staffed baggage-storage counter in each of its three terminals, open 24 hours a day, with no advance booking needed.

Which terminal should I use

Whichever one your flight actually lands in. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 share the dnata Baggage Services desk near Boots Pharmacy and Etisalat; Terminal 3 has its own counter, Emirates Left Luggage, near Exit 1.

How much does Dubai airport luggage storage cost

AED 40 for the first 12 hours at Terminal 1 or 2 for a standard bag, or AED 35 at Terminal 3. Larger or valuable bags run AED 50 and AED 40 respectively. Each further 12-hour block is billed again at the same rate.

Do I need to book luggage storage at Dubai airport in advance

No. All three counters are walk-in only, with no app or online reservation for the airport's own service.

Is it a locker or do I hand my bag to someone

A staffed desk. Your bag is tagged with a numbered ticket and kept behind the counter by airport staff, not placed in a self-service locker.

What can't I store at the Dubai airport luggage counter

Cash, jewellery and other high-value items, perishable food, and anything hazardous or flammable — the same restrictions that apply to checked luggage generally.

Is my luggage insured while it's stored

The counters themselves don't appear to offer contents insurance. Rely on your own travel insurance for anything irreplaceable rather than assuming the airport covers loss or damage.

How long does drop-off and collection take

Roughly five to ten minutes each way at the counter, longer if an arriving flight has just landed and there's a queue ahead of you.

Is Dubai airport luggage storage cheaper than Abu Dhabi's

For a short stay, yes — Abu Dhabi's shortest bracket is AED 25 for up to 3 hours against Dubai's flat AED 35–40 for a full 12-hour block. For anything past a few hours, compare the actual bracket you'd land in on each page rather than assuming one airport is always cheaper.

Is it worth pairing bag storage with a Dubai city tour

If you've already paid for a 12-hour block, that's exactly the kind of window our Dubai Layover Tour is built to use rather than waste sitting at the gate.
