Have hours between flights?

Bags down? Turn the layover into a tour.

A private car and driver meet you right at Terminal A, take in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Corniche and Qasr Al Watan on a route timed to your connection, then have you back with margin to collect your bag and board. Per car, not per person, from $190.

Can you actually use this counter

The storage counter sits on the Arrivals concourse, which means it’s landside, past immigration. If you’re on a same-ticket transit that never leaves the airside transit area, you won’t reach it at all. If your gap is long enough that you’re clearing immigration anyway, luggage storage at Abu Dhabi airport applies to you.

Not sure whether your layover even lets you clear immigration in the first place? That’s a visa question, not a storage question, covered on our Abu Dhabi Transit Visa Guide.

Exact location, not “somewhere in Arrivals”

Where to find it in Terminal A

Zayed International Airport retired the old Terminal 1, 2 and 3 buildings when Terminal A opened in November 2023 — if a page still says “Terminal 3 left luggage,” it’s describing a building that no longer exists. The counter itself sits on the Arrivals concourse, Level 0, at Gate 7, next to the ITC Bus counter — the same landmark the airport’s own site uses, which puts you within sight of it rather than just “somewhere on the Arrivals floor” — worth knowing if you’re searching for abu dhabi airport left luggage on a slow airport wifi connection.

Set the right expectation

Is it a locker or do you hand your bag to someone

Not a locker. There’s no wall of PINs or an app to check in with. It’s a staffed desk: you hand your bag over, it’s tagged and logged against your name, and you get a paper claim ticket. On return, that ticket is what gets your bag back, nothing digital, nothing self-service.

These are the current per-item rates — the airport raised every bracket by roughly AED 10 since our last check, so if a forum thread or another site quotes the older numbers, that’s why: confirm at the counter, since abu dhabi airport luggage storage cost is the one detail worth double-checking before you commit.

The part the price list doesn’t warn you about

Are you charged for the tier or for the time you actually use

The tier, not the minutes. Drop a bag for 40 minutes during a 6-hour layover and you’re still billed the full 12-hour bracket, AED 35, because the counter charges per time-block, not per hour used. There’s no partial-day refund and no pro-rating.

The practical read: a 12-hour bracket bought for a 6-hour layover is 6 hours of paid-for storage time sitting unused, whether or not you leave the airport.

Before you pack your bag away

What you can’t store

Liquids over standard security limits, perishable food, cash, jewelry and other valuables, and anything classed hazardous or restricted under UAE customs rules. If you’re unsure about one specific item, ask the counter staff when you drop the bag, they’ll tell you on the spot rather than after it’s already sealed away. Pricing is also per item, not per traveler, so a family of four with six bags pays six times the bracket price, discounts don’t start until 10+ bags.

The handover, not a sales pitch

Is it safe to leave your bags there

It’s staffed and ticketed, not unattended. Your bag is tagged and logged against your name when you drop it, and it’s only released against the matching claim ticket on your way back, so the accountability sits with a specific person at a specific desk, not a locker anyone with the right code could open.

Since you’re paying for the block anyway

What to do with the hours you already bought

You’ve paid for a 12, 24 or 48-hour bracket regardless of how much of it you actually use, so the only real waste is buying the block and sitting next to it in the terminal. A private layover tour is built around that same math: a driver meets you after you’ve dropped your bags, runs a route sized to your real remaining time (immigration and security subtracted, not guessed at), and has you back at Terminal A with enough margin to collect your bag and clear security again before boarding.

Abu Dhabi airport luggage storage FAQ

Is there luggage storage at Abu Dhabi airport

Yes, an official, staffed counter run by Excess Baggage Company on the Arrivals concourse, Level 0 of Terminal A, at Gate 7 next to the ITC Bus counter, open 24 hours a day.

Do I need to clear immigration to reach it

Yes, the counter is landside in Arrivals. If your connection stays airside the whole time, you will not reach it. If you are unsure whether your layover lets you clear immigration at all, that is covered on our Transit Visa Guide.

Is it a self-service locker

No. There is no PIN pad or app. It is a staffed desk, your bag is tagged and logged, and you get a paper claim ticket that is required to collect it.

How much does luggage storage cost at Abu Dhabi airport

AED 35 for up to 12 hours, AED 55 for up to 24 hours, AED 75 for up to 48 hours and AED 105 for up to 72 hours, then AED 140 plus AED 25 per extra day beyond that, per the airport rate card checked on 30 September 2026.

Am I charged for the full tier even for a short drop-off

Yes. A 40-minute drop-off during a 6-hour layover still bills the full 12-hour bracket. There is no partial-day refund or pro-rating.

Where exactly is the counter

Terminal A, Arrivals concourse, Level 0, at Gate 7, next to the ITC Bus counter. Older guides mentioning Terminal 1, 2 or 3 are describing buildings that closed when Terminal A opened in November 2023.

Can I store liquids or restricted items

No, standard security limits on liquids apply, along with the usual restrictions on perishables, valuables, and hazardous items. Ask the counter staff directly if you are unsure about a specific item.

Do I get a discount for storing multiple bags

Yes, 10% off at 10 or more bags and 15% off at 20 or more, which mainly applies to groups or delegations rather than a typical family.

Can I pay by card

Not independently confirmed for this counter, ask at the desk when you drop your bag rather than assuming either way.

Should I book a layover tour after storing my bags

If your layover is long enough that you have paid for a 12-hour or longer bracket anyway, yes, that block of paid-for time is exactly what a private layover tour is timed around.
